Resveratrol may boost SIRT1 which is implicated in catchup growth. This is accroding to Resveratrol boosts cognitive function by targeting SIRT1. Metformin may boost SIRT1 also according to Metformin Is a Direct SIRT1-Activating Compound: Computational Modeling and Experimental Validation.Resveratrol has a similar structure to estrogen and may prevent binding of estrogen to various cells that would decrease growth. Therefore, resveratrol may increase height if taken during development at the right dose.
Resveratrol Treatment Delays Growth Plate Fusion and Improves Bone Growth in Female Rabbits
"Trans-resveratrol (RES), naturally produced by many plants, has a structure similar to synthetic estrogen diethylstilbestrol. Pre-pubertal ovary-intact New Zealand white rabbits received daily oral administration of either vehicle (control) or RES (200 mg/kg) until growth plate fusion occurred{We don't know if this will have the same effect on men}. Bone growth and growth plate size were longitudinally monitored by X-ray imaging, while at the endpoint, bone length was assessed by a digital caliper. In addition, pubertal ovariectomized (OVX) rabbits were treated with vehicle, RES or estradiol cypionate (positive control) for 7 or 10 weeks and fetal rat metatarsal bones were cultured in vitro with RES (0.03 µM–50 µM) and followed for up to 19 days. In ovary-intact rabbits, sixteen-week treatment with RES increased tibiae and vertebrae bone growth and subsequently improved final length. In OVX rabbits, RES delayed fusion of the distal tibia, distal femur and proximal tibia epiphyses and femur length and vertebral bone growth increased when compared with controls. RES-treated OVX rabbits had a wider distal femur growth plate, enlarged resting zone, increased number/size of hypertrophic chondrocytes, increased height of the hypertrophic zone, and suppressed chondrocyte expression of VEGF and laminin. In cultured fetal rat metatarsal bones, RES stimulated growth at 0.3 µM while at higher concentrations (10 μM and 50 μM) growth was inhibited. RES has the potential to improve longitudinal bone growth. The effect was associated with a delay of growth plate fusion resulting in increased final length. These effects were accompanied by a profound suppression of VEGF and laminin expression suggesting that impairment of growth plate vascularization might be an underlying mechanism."
Note that only the smallest dosage of Resveratrol had an anabolic effect on growth which is consistent with the view that estrogen has an equilibrium level for growth. These rabbits were pre-puberty so estrogen levels should've been lower than puberty. Since estrogen levels increase during puberty doses should increase during puberty as estrogen would be higher than equilibrium level. It's hard to ascertain what that is for humans though.
"Trans-resveratrol (3, 5, 4′-trihydroxystilbene), is a polyphenol naturally produced by a variety of plants such as peanuts, berries, skin of red grapes in response to stress, injuries and infections."<-Does anyone have anecdotal accounts of tall people or groups that ate lots of peanuts, berries, or red grapes? Or drink red wine?
"in weanling rats demonstrating that 6 days of treatment with very low doses of RES (1–100 μg/day) had no significant effect on radial bone growth"
The Rabbits were twelve weeks old.
"tibia length 111.6±0.6 mm in the RES group vs. 109.5±0.6 mm in control" over 8 weeks. That's approximately a 5% increase in growth rate. Vertebral height was increased as well.
"RES-treatment delayed the time of growth plate fusion in all studied growth plates."<this could be due to Resveratrol's effects on sirt1 and catch up growth
"After 10 weeks, 33% of the animals in the RES group had unfused distal femur growth plates while only 10% of control animals had"
Surprisingly, RES decreased the number of proliferative chondrocytes per area in growth plates versus control but this is consistent with the view that Resveratrol delays growth plate senescence.
"chondrocyte expression of VEGF to be clearly suppressed in RES-treated rabbits as compared to controls (265±54 vs. 626±50 VEGF positive cells/mm2) while in the E2 group VEGF expression was similar as in controls (632±153 vs. 626±50 positive cells/mm2). Also the expression of laminin was decreased in the RES-treated group as compared to controls (17.7±0.6 vs. 27.4±1.04 positive cells/mm2;). In contrast, laminin expression was elevated in E2 treated animals (44.4±0.8 vs. 27.4±1.04 positive cells/mm2 in control)"
"RES significantly improves bone growth by delaying the process of epiphyseal fusion in female animals. Animals treated with RES had wider growth plates with enlarged resting zone, fewer proliferative chondrocytes, increased number and size of hypertrophic chondrocytes and markedly suppressed VEGF and laminin expression."
Hi Tyler
ReplyDeleteIs there any research on joint loading going on presently?
now everything is falling into place:
ReplyDeleteestrogen and vitamin D3 accelerate bone maturation through VEGF
F-SPODIN through plasmin and laminin
and weight training (weight lifting) increases the expression of C-FOS and VEGF
then the VEGF plays a very important role in the maturation and fusion of epiphysis
he will also be responsible for senescence?
what do you think Tyler?
Hey man, what do you think of vitamin B14 (produced by the body). Please do some research on this cause i believe it has real height increase potential.
DeleteVitamin B14 is a potent proliferator,
Deletebut NOT AVAILABLE for sale.
Mateus do you perform LSJL and what your opinion on this?
DeleteMateus read this http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3006398/
DeleteAnd whats you email
Tyler great post!
ReplyDeleteBut we don't know how to use any of this for LSJL, now ive been performing it for 7 months with no gains but im not quitting. So what do you think of the last podcast Micheal put up saying vitamin k2 and a hole bunch of other supplements to gain height. Also what do you think on Vitamin B14 it is a cell proliferation of bone marrow and a rat growth factor. Answer this question if you really want to improve LSJL.
good point
Deletei agree with you
the only way we can find out what works is by people posting there routines so we can figure out what works and not maybe for some people, there bones above and below there hypo line is thicker/denser that could explain width no lenth. Even Tyler said heavy lifting helped him gain height so maybe that pushes straight down on the bone to weaken it.
DeleteWe could test that if someone did finger loading and does press ups on fingers dont know if it would work through
Deletedo you know of any stimulators of thyroid hormones and parathyroids? supplements?
ReplyDeletewould that increase height?
what are your thoughts on thyroidism or hypothyroidism and height?
thyroid hormones accelerate terminal differentiation in growth plates active
Deletehyperthyroidism closes the plates.
and T3 hormone increases FGFR3.
Thyroid hormones are not good in excess.
Diet rich in phosphurus increases PTH.
low vitamin d levels, Increase PTH.
COX-2 inhbitors Increase PTH (arachidonic acid is an inhibitor of PTH)
low calcium levels in blood PTH Increase.
Lithium Increase PTH
i thought the thyroid hormones were beneficial for height? something.
DeleteSo much theory here always, so less proven results.
ReplyDeleteYeah, this guy is not a 100% honest with us. I realized that a couple of months ago.
ReplyDeleteno i disagree, he seems very credible for all this blog work,
ReplyDeletei just think we all wish we had the answers already ..
the human body is way too complicated.
ReplyDeletebeen trying to get on the forum just keeps saying inactive account
ReplyDeletenatural height growth has been shut down Wtf
ReplyDeleteno, it hasn't
DeleteThe only way to go post puberty is through Leg Lengthening. That's it.
ReplyDeleteThere is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to grow with any supplement.
This is for people in puberty to take. So you might have the later stages of puberty for long this could mean 1-2 inches depending how long taken.
DeleteGuys, I really don't know why you complain so much about Tyler, He's not a scientist or a researcher, nor did he invented LSJL, he's just a guy who's running a blog where he shares all the information, ideas and his experiences with us, and he does it all by himself in his spare time for free with no funding whatsoever (I don't think this blog is so profitable).
ReplyDeleteIt's time people understood the concept of this site, THIS IS JUST A BLOG, nobody here promised you anything, and if you really want to complain you should point those complaints to scientists and researchers in the medical field.
good point smoker, i agree
DeleteHe did come up with LSJL. He read a research paper where the hind limbs of mice were only slightly lengthened through new cartilage formation in their growth plates (which don't ossify) by applying a mechanical load. He then claims to have magically grown a substantial 1 1/2", even though his growth plates have long ossified. I want to think it's possible, but this site is ridiculous.
DeleteThe study said nothing of that TYLER IS SPECULATING
Deleteread the study first and read the rest of his blog if not go back to HGH and stretching.
Seriously dont know why you guys keep saying thinks about Tyler when there is guys like GrowTallerGuru scamming each generation as it comes, sad really.
The study said nothing of what? It mentioned that growth plates, which are cartilage, were elevated by around 20%. It also said the number of chondrocytes (cartilage cells) were increased throughout the tibia. Once epiphyseal plates ossify, longitudinal growth is currently not possible, other than through distraction osteogenesis. He said that he grew 1 1/2"!
DeleteHe may got the word out about LSJL and was one of the first people to suggest to try and implement it on humans but that still doesn't mean he invented it, and even if he did he still doesn't have the resources to investigate and develop it, the best he can do is to try it on himself which is what he did. I would love for Tyler to find "the secret" to increase our height and solve all our problems in life but with all the respect he's just another guy (no offense Tyler), although he's very knowledgeable about the subject, but he's not a scientist so I don't think we should expect too much of him.
Deletewhen I come to this blog I looking to be updated if there's been a progress or a breakthrough in the field of height increase, that's it.
Wow that's the craziest thing I've ever heard cartilage that don't 'ossify'
DeleteI didn't mean that he invented joint loading, just the name LSJL and the technique he promotes for adult height growth. I believe LSJL could technically work but only for those with active growth plates. Once plates fuse the mechanism for growth is no longer possible, joint loading only facilitates additional growth while plates are still active.
DeleteI agree with your last sentence, and I do like this article. If a person is younger, anything is worth trying if it has evidence to justify it's use for increasing height and is safe to do so. I just don't think this blog should talk about how he supposedly grew 1 1/2" without proof, through a questionable method, when no one else can replicate his results. That is why people are upset with him.
BTW, nobody really complained about him in this article. You made a post just because someone said he wasn't being 100% honest.
Since limb lengthening is already available via distraction osteogenesis, there likely won't be that much research into adult height increase for cosmetic purposes. I've read about one or two research teams who have supposedly created new growth plates, but who knows if it will ever be clinically available.
How would growing taller solve all of your problems?
Ok that's fine, i believe Tyler grew from LSJL but w.e. Strange how the scientist behind LSJL have clearly stated that they would try to use this for limb deficiencies. And fine go and wait for growth plate transplants i dont believe their coming any time soon. And height increase won't solve my problems, just my height, i get on in the real world fine i just see height increase just the same as anyone who wants more muscle, just other people see it as a no go area.
DeleteI agree with you. Although there's not much research at the moment, I'm quite sure it will expand in the future. limb lengthening is the first step in the evolution of HI we've come up with and eventually the world will have to come up with a better alternative.
DeleteLast anon, Limb length discrepancies in people with active growth plates. I'm not "waiting" for growth plate transplants.
DeleteHas anyone emailed Zhang about what he meant when they mentioned administering igf-1 into the growth plates of the "elderly"? Blog owner never answers.
Just because we don't have open growth plates doesn't mean all the other steps don't work we just need to figure out a way to grow in length than width which is obvs ganna be harder and it is annoying that Tyler never answers
DeleteIt specifically means the other steps don't work. As of right now, if your growth plates are ossified you're fucked when it comes to further growth. Limb lengthening is the only way to become taller. Who knows what the future holds though.
DeleteIF YOUR PERFORMING LSJL PLEASE JOIN THE FORUM.
ReplyDeleteTyler i noticed you haven't been so active lately just wondering what up man?
ReplyDeleteAnyone who seems to have a problem with what Tyler is doing please either redirect to another site/blog or go to 2010 And read Feb/March then you will see he is just like us accept he decided to do something about it and actually share it with us.
ReplyDeletei think all the research is there the limitation is in putting it into practice..
ReplyDeleteTrue no one has even tried LIPUS+LSJL, everyone just follows Tylers routine and were not Tyler...
DeleteI actually think this is a good article. Do you think it would be possible to lengthen limbs surgically, but without breaking them first? If bones really do remodel themselves to adapt to loads placed upon them, would they lengthen under tensile strength? Maybe they would just increase in density, or thickness?
ReplyDeleteyou need to
Delete1. weaken bone significantly
2. have enough tensile stretch on bone only
i think it would be harder than you think to do
I was just asking if bones could lengthen under tensile strength. I never suggested it would be easy. Why would you need to weaken the bones? If you did that, it would defeat the purpose since your bones couldn't support your weight. Obviously since it's a surgical procedure you could apply the tensile strength specifically to the bone internally.
DeleteBone is too strong thats why
Deleteirrelevant, but you're still missing the point.
DeleteHow would you know, anything? I already said it probably wouldn't work. You can't even form a proper sentence.
DeleteTyler
ReplyDelete1. Why do you never answer Mateus, when he seems to have good points?
2. Have you given up on LSJL?
3. Are you still performing LSJL?
4. If so then why haven't you tried anything along side it?
smoker, you're already 6'+ tall. You need therapy. Jesus Christ.
ReplyDeleteI'm a basketball player and 6 feet is nothing in basketball. it's considered a dwarf.
Deleteresveratrol may also help prevent prostate cancer
ReplyDeleteTongkat Ali (Eurycoma Longifolia) inhibits estrogen, increases testosterone and strengthens bones
I take it back smoker, maybe your legs aren't proportionate to your torso. If not, 6' is tall, don't worry about it!
ReplyDeleteActually in terms of basketball it's a horrible height to get stuck at. you can only be a point guard with this height. did you know that the average NBA player is 6'7?
DeleteRegarding lengthening without distraction, my reasoning was that since soft tissues lengthen under tensile stress, then maybe bone can as well. It seems too easy, if it were possible then it would already be done that way as it would be easier, safer, and would allow full weight bearing. When distraction osteogenesis is performed on the tibia, is it also done to the fibula? or does the fibula lengthen from the tensile stress caused from elongating the tibia? Please answer this one!
ReplyDeleteNevermind, I'm sure the fibula must be broken along with the tibia. It was too obvious.
ReplyDeleteNo the fibula isn't broken
Deleteactually the fibula does not need to be broken. Most long bones are connected to bone on the ends, top and bottom, but the fibula is different. While the top part of the fibula is connected to bone, the bottom part is held on by ligaments, which can be pulled slowly
ReplyDeleteLook closely at an anatomy picture and notice how the fibula is attached to the tibia to understand
Bones are always connected together by ligaments. I have looked at an anatomical picture, and I've seen some x-rays where the fibula is broken along with the tibia. I don't understand how it is done otherwise, though I haven't researched it much tbh. If you elongated the tibia, you would have to elongate the fibula by the same amount, correct? If you just elongated the ligaments, wouldn't that cause serious problems? However, if the fibula isn't broken, and isn't lengthening due to tensile stress then it doesn't matter, as it defeats the purpose of my original post. I also forgot that according to Wolff's law, bones will remodel themselves to become stronger to resist loading, so by that theory they wouldn't lengthen anyway.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the LEPTIN in bone growth
ReplyDeletehttp://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/439243_3
Leptin is bad for open growth plates
Delete..... I hear that leptin is good.
DeleteHey Tyler, had any gains in height or finger length lately?
ReplyDeleteLooks like heightquest is now defunct. Naturalheightgrowth seems to be taking its place.
