Reanalyzing Lateral Synovial Joint Loading for ages over 20

Let me first say that everything that's been said about Lateral Synovial Joint Loading sending new stem cells to the hyaline cartilage growth plate line is correct before the growth plate has been vascularized.  Estrogen on it's own will not provide supranormal growth but it can prevent epiphyseal fusion post ephiphyseal cessation.  Although Estrogen is probably not the best target compound to block, it would probably be better to block VEGF or specific enzymes within the bone itself.  Estrogen works to cease growth because high levels of estrogen cause cellular apoptosis but low levels of estrogen also are against growth by lowering cellular proliferation rate.  The only time estrogen is recommended is post-cessation but pre-fusion.  And if fusion is blocked you will still need a way to get new stem cells to the hyaline cartilage growth plate line such as by LSJL.

Lateral Synovial Joint Loading is recommended at all stages of growth and development.

What is interesting is that several people have reported ankle growth as a result of lateral synovial joint loading.  This is extremely interesting as osteoblasts do not really travel, they stay underneath the periosteum and gradually form new haversian systems(osteons) and then become osteocytes.  Note: at any age you can grow by causing microfractures within these osteons but the optimal way of causing these has not yet been determined.

Now the way that the epiphysis grows in size is by it's own growth plates.  LSJL may be working to increase size by stimulating those growth plates.  However, post fusion people have increased ankle size with lateral synovial joint loading.  There is no periosteum on the epiphysis(there is a fibrous capsule however but it does not attach into the bone with Sharpey's fibres) so there isn't a way for new osteoblasts to form from the periosteum.

On the epiphysis there is no periosteum, so growth on the epiphysis cannot occur from osteoblasts formed from there(unless new osteoblasts are formed from stem cells within the bone or osteoblasts are pushed into the epiphysis by LSJL induced fluid flow).

There is only trabecular bone in the epiphysis so bone cannot grow directly from the osteons.  Trabecular bone can deposit new lamellae on itself growing in width but that would not really explain a growth of the epiphysis(ankle).

I and others have reported growth from LSJL post fusion.  The mechanism of this is unclear as the original hyaline cartilage growth plate line theory was proven incorrect and LSJL is of insufficient loads to cause gap fractures within individual osteons.

This does not mean that LSJL is not effective post fusion.  Far from it, it means that LSJL can induce growth in a manner not previously known before.

  1. Have those who have reported growth in the ankle seen increase in length, width or both? Could this be the same response seen in those who do extreme weight lifting or impact sports were bone is eventuly forced to grow wider (Wolffs law). However by the strain being close to the bone ends allows for slight 'overspill' of growth causing the increase in height.

  2. So, essentially the same process is taking place on those who have seen length increase and ankle size increase: fluid flow in the bone is sending stem cells to the growth plate line, but somehow the location that new bone is forming differs? I believe I have grown 1/4" in length and also, my ankle definitely has much more bone around it (i'll send in a pic asap). Is it because we are putting the dumbbell or clamp more on the one part of the epiphysis rather than another? Where exactly do you put it? How about the whole affect as far as being in a hypoxic state when doing lsjl? Could that dictate how the bone reacts/processes the stem cells? What is we ran and caused microfractures right before we did lsjl?

Some have reported length gains but they have not provided pictures. Wolf's Law is a very simplistic model of bone growth. Bone grows in width due to the periosteum but there's no periosteum surronding the epiphysis of the long bones.

    Slimchanse:

The hyaline cartilage growth plate line is stated to have vascularized at around age 20 so growth cannot be due to sending stem cells to that. Chondrocytes could develop organically or new osteoblasts can form from stem cells(not from periosteum) that could cause the growth.

Hypoxia is related to an hypoxia-inducable growth factor. One of the differences between bone and cartilage is vascularity. Vascularity causes epiphyseal fusion. Hypoxia is important but it's exact role has not been determined.

The current hypothesis is that LSJL results in new lamellar bone growth in the epiphysis.

Microfractures are very good. They can cause growth on the osteon level which will eventually result in an overall increase in length.

Where are you putting the clamp slimechanse?

    1. Tyler. can I still get a height increase of 2cm if my plates have closed?

  4. I'm having a tough time getting the clamp on the ankle, but I try that first, but then put a 65lb dumbbell straight on the center of the epiphysis of the inside ankle. Ankle only, but I also try to use the clamp on my upper epiphysis of the tibia and the lower of the femur, but just started that a few days ago. I may not be understanding this entirely, but it is still possible to create chondrocytes which will turn into new osteoblasts forming bone above the epiphysis. Also, if that is true lithium should aid in chondrocyte proliferation increasing the likelihood of new bone forming?

  5. Tyler I took a pic of my ankle (both have the same build up around them). I think it was a good angle to show that it does not look like a regular inner ankle bone. It is much less sharp/prominent due to the build up around it....how can I get it to you?

  6. has anyone experienced any problems due to change/growth in the ankle bone? Such as change in the way you walk, or pains/irritation in the ankle area? Any negative "side effects"?

  7. No negative side effects for me. Area around ankle epiphysies has become thicker.

  8. can an adult(25) grow 1 full inch with LSJL??

  9. Have you considered Vitamin K2-rich foods such as natto to stimulate osteoblastic bone formation? may help?
